Larene Spitler
I
am Rachel's mom. It took twelve years before this blessing
came into our home, and she was very much appreciated. She
is our only child. When she was 1 1/2 years old she quit
talking. It wasn't until she was 3 years old that I learned
about Autism. Since that time, I've tried to learn everything
I could about Autism. It has provided me many opportunities
to grow. Before Rachel was born, I decided that I wanted
to homeschool my children. I had heard Glenn Kimber speak
many times about what could be achieved through Homeschooling.
But when I started dealing with Autism, it threw me for
a loop. Rachel attended two years of a Learning Disabled
Preschool. During the second year I was a volunteer at the
preschool every day. During Kindergarten, Rachel was assigned
a teachers aid. But it became obvious that she needed a
lot of one on one. So I decided that the one person would
be ME! This is my third year of homeschooling and Rachel
is making great progress. Her social skills are growing
at an amazing rate. Her speech is growing exponentially.
The public school is very friendly to me and they are working
with me.
I
am also a Computer Programmer and Webmaster.
